Background

The effects of climate change, such as floods, fires, droughts, and air pollution caused by the burning of fossil fuels in households and industry are among the leading environmental problems in Bosnia and Herzegovina. As part of overall climate action, UNDP Accelerator Lab in Bosnia and Herzegovina, UNDP’s “innovation engine”, has developed the first local carbon footprint calculator available on www.tvojco2.ba.This CO2 calculator aims to provide citizens and businesses in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the opportunity to assess their impact on the climate and the environment in an informative and interactive way by calculating their own carbon footprint over the course of one year.

Eager to go a step further and enable individuals and businesses to offset their carbon footprint by directly investing financial and non-financial resources in various greening activities, such as afforestation or energy efficiency measures, additional platform features are in development. One of the new features of the TvojCO2 platform is an online marketplace for carbon footprint offsetting products and services. Individuals and companies will have an option to choose to buy from a selection of different trees, each absorbing about one tone of CO2 over 40 years. In addition to trees, users will have a chance to invest in other natural solutions for reducing GHG emissions.

The platform's marketplace will host vendors of the products and services that will enable users to offset their carbon footprint. Under the guidance and direct supervision of the UNDP Accelerator Lab, the TvojCO2 Platform Partnership Expert will conduct a mapping of potential vendors of products and services suitable for CO2 offsetting that have not been previously engaged by our team in the platform, regularly update the partnership database, establish initial contact with the vendors and their respective local governments, organize meetings with representatives of potential vendors, municipalities/cities and members of the AccLab team, and support vendors in creating their online presence at the marketplace. The TvojCO2 Platform Partnership Expert will also be responsible for advising the UNDP Accelerator Lab on the platform updates in terms of a more efficient and user-friendly interface based on vendors' feedback and support the team in conducting risk assessments for new vendors.

b. Serve as the first point of contact for vendors seeking technical assistance over the use of TvojCO2 digital marketplace. The expert’s responsibility is to walk the user through the interface, provide instructions on how to properly use the system and resolve any potential problem with the user experience, direct unresolved issues to the UNDP Accelerator Lab team and provide follow-up and update the users upon their resolution. Proactively seek and communicate opportunities for the system improvements and fine-tuning.

c. Support the Accelerator Lab team in conducting risk assessments for all new partners at the platform with appropriate data collection, liaison with the vendors and documentation overview. When required, the expert is to provide assistance to the Lab team also in the partnership formalization process with the vendors.
